Kinship in the 17th Century Chesapeake Colonial Frontier
With additional support, I aim to develop a new method of ancient DNA extraction from tobacco pipestems, ethically and sustainably illuminating these histories without destroying human bone. This approach will support my research into the populations of European and African descended persons in colonial North American contexts within an ethical framework that respects the sensitivities of descendent communities who may not want to use human remains in genomic research.
